Guide

A lot of attackers in low ranks don't realize how easily they die and charge at every enemy they see. High ranked attackers do know this and hang back from the fight, but they don't realize how quickly that can change. From now on, those attackers will all run in fear from the great terror of Blastoise (if they didn't already).

Squirtle is not very powerful, so farming until you reach level 5 is a good idea. However, even at this point you have a very good way to destroy individual opponents who overextend. Use Skull Bash to dash into them, then use Water Gun and push them at your goal or into a corner where they can't escape. Avoid pushing them into your own berries. At this point, if you have backup, it will be very difficult for an individual pokemon to escape or for their teammate to come save them.

The same applies once you get Wartortle. Use Skull Bash as an approach, then Hydro Pump to push them into an inescapable position. With Blastoise, you get either an even better approach or even more displacement with Surf. If you use Surf as extra displacement, you could have some very devastating combos. For example, you could first push a scoring opponent out of your goal zone towards the berries with Hydro Pump, then push them super far towards your spawn with Surf. Escaping would mean going through your speed flux zone or your jungle, and both mean death for the average attacker.

Note that although I’ve targeted attackers with this build, it can work against all Pokémon, just not quite as effectively. Most Melee Pokémon thrive at close quarters, so watch out for that. Speedsters usually have a dash move or two to escape in addition to Eject Button, Defenders can tank the Damage, and Supporters usually stick very close to their teammates. All-Arounders also usually have a dash move, and can handle close quarters combat.

Even during massive team fights, this strategy is still useful. Once you use Hydro Typhoon, using Hydro Pump to isolate an opponent from the fight can allow you and your teammates to take them out quickly and gain a significant advantage. If an objective is at low health, you can push a good amount of opponents away to make it easier for your teammates to get it.

Held Items:
Choice Specs are to increase the damage of all of Blastoise's moves, and Focus Band is to keep Blastoise from dying. Since Blastoise gets his Unite move so often, I chose to use Energy Amplifier to really help him hit hard in team fights.

Works Well With

Wigglytuff

Wigglytuff can sleep opponents so they can't escape, and is just great at punishing cocky attackers in general. He also has the highest special defense and the second highest hp, so it’s really tough for most attackers to finish him.

Absol

Absol can quickly assassinate the enemy pokemon once you've driven them to the perfect place.

Lucario

Lucario has a really great early game, so both of you together can completely stop the other team from playing the game.
