Guide

The Resonant Guard is currently not on this site, so I don't have a third item yet.

This a high-skill hinderance and displacement build is used specifically to help teammates in lots of different situations. I have also solo defended a goal zone many times with this build.

Start with Water Gun and immediately use it on the first wild Pokémon in the top path. It should be recharged by the time you reach the 2 wild Pokémon lined up. Hit both wild Pokémon with Water Gun. At that point, just play as best you can, pushing wild Pokémon away from the opponent and leveling up so you can access Hydro Pump as soon as possible.

Use Hydro Pump and Surf to displace and stun opponents so you and your teammates can score quickly. Use Eject Button to better position yourself so you can best defend your teammates.

A common stalling combo I like using is Surf, jump towards the target, immediately Hydro Pump to push them as far away as possible, then eject towards your teammates to assist their goal. Maybe throw in a Unite Move if you're struggling.

Tip: You can use Eject Button while using Blastoise's Unite Move to chase down opponents who are trying to avoid it.

Sometimes having a low damage output can shorten the battle, and it doesn't usually end in your favor. Focus Band is extremely helpful when going up against a high-damage Pokémon, so keep an eye on your Focus Band timer so you know when it's best to jump into a big team battle. This is especially helpful in Rayquaza fights because literally everyone on the opposing team is attacking you.

You get an even bigger health boost when you use your Unite Move, thanks to the Buddy Barrier. Having a shield makes you useful for longer, especially when you need that last 100-point goal after Rayquaza.

Resonant Guard builds off of what is already happening in battle. It grants a shield to you and your nearby allies when dealing damage to an opposing Pokémon, so be sure to use this to your advantage, especially in big teamfights.

Combining the efforts of Focus Band, Buddy Barrier, Resonant Guard, and the healing effects of your own goal zone, you can be nearly indestructible when it comes to defense. I've used this stalling technique many times in my own goal zone, often leaving the battle with no goals scored.

This build works best with white, blue, and purple boost emblems for boosting HP and defenses. Prioritize HP over everything, as this will help you stay alive long enough to do what you need to do. Another way to go is to use red boost emblems to increase your basic attack speed because Blastoise's third basic attack shortens the cooldown of its moves. I'd stay away from combining these two strategies because this would leave your defenses and basic attack speed too low to do anything worth much.

Again, this build is mainly used for hinderance, displacement, and stalling, and will not usually get many KO's. While Blastoise's Rapid Spin moveset can carry in one way, this moveset can carry in another.
